A request for information from a friend of Dale McMillin. Please forward any information you have to Charlie.
"Can you tell me anything about Dale McMillin's death? I was stationed with Dale in 67 and 68. He survived Nam.
We are planning a reunion in 2007, 40 years. I googled his name and found his name and picture on your site. If you can tell me what city he died in, maybe I can find his obituary. Do you know if he had any siblings? Thanks for your help.

P.S. I graduated in June 1965. Drafted few months later."

I want to extend a special "thank you" to the reunion
committee for organizing the party. The organizational effort
was very successful. Thanks a million also to Gary Heck, Danny
Baker, and the staff there at Korbel. Everything was perfect.
Thanks, everyone, for participating in the reunion. I had a really
wonderful time visiting with as many of you as I could. It was
a great deal of fun to see many of you for the first time in 40
years. I can't remember having that much fun and laughing like
that in a long time.
I have also gotten a lot of enjoyment developing and working
on this class web site. If possible, with your help, I'd like
to find and account for each member of our class. Our class is
representative of the history of the second half of the 20th century
and into the first half of the 21st century. As a group, I'm sure
that we've experienced the highs and the lows of that timeframe.
The web site is an attempt to capture some of the history of our
times and lives. I want you to know that I really appreciate everyone's
help and participation in this project.
Here's a suggestion. Let's plan another reunion in 2010. Why
wait for 10 years? Perhaps we could make it last a little longer.
The five hours seemed to flash by all too quickly.

Sorry to have missed seeing everyone at the reunion. I had family
obligations that prevented me from getting away. I am still living
on an island and working at an elementary school. I love to watch
baseball on satellite tv, collect vintage eyewear, have sure slowed
down a lot in the past couple years. God bless you all. What wonderful
memories of growing up in Sebastopol. Would love to hear from
classmates. Peggy

News from the Castleberry family. We had a new grandson!
Our son, Lou, and his wife had a big baby boy, 8lbs. 5oz., yesterday.
They named him Lucas Daniel. The only boy in the next Castleberry
generation! Chip already brought him a football to the hospital.
Does that mean he'll have to coach as Analy for 18 more years??
Yikes!

Our daughter, Crystal, got engaged over the Thanksgiving

we were delighted. The wedding is planned for August. This is
the second marriage in our family. Son Justin married October

We have been lucky in weathering two hurricanes (Charley and Frances)
in the last month. However, those around us in other parts of the
state have not been so lucky. The devastation is vast but the people,
local and from all across the country, are working together to recover
from the storms. We have another hurricane (Ivan) on the way that
will make landfall in Western Florida. I encourage you to donate
money to the Red Cross and earmark it for Florida Hurricanes. They
have been doing an incredible job here. The interesting thing
about these storms, once they are over, is the incredible power
they possess and unleash. Awe inspiring and humbling.

Enrico Togneri passed away earlier this month from a heart attack.
There was a very nice write-up in Friday's Press Democrat that referred
to him coming to the U.S. when he was 12. How well I remember those
days when there were only 15 people in our class, and Rico was the
new one. Rico become renowned as an expert on DNA testing and crime
lab procedures and consulted worldwide. Who would have thought that
a little kid from Italy with no English whatsoever would rise to
such levels. ( Visit

Charles Schulz Philosophy
The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the
creator of the "Peanuts" comic strip. You don't have
to actually answer the questions. Just read the e-mail straight
through, and you'll get the point.
1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor
and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.
How did you do?
The point is this: none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their
fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are
forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.
Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult
time.
3. Name three people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and
special.
5. Think of three people with whom you enjoy spending time.
6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you.
Easier? The lesson is this:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones
with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards.
They are the ones that care.

28 January 2003 How did we survive - Lani
Halsey
If you lived as a child in the 40's, 50's, 60's or 70's how did
you
survive? Looking back, it's hard to believe that we have lived
as long as we have.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air
bags. Riding in the back of a pickup truck on a warm day was always
a special
treat. Our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based
paint. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors, or
cabinets, and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets. Not to
mention hitchhiking to town as a young kid!
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. Horrors!
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then
rode
down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running
into
the bushes a few times we learned to solve the problem. We would
leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were
back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us
all day. No cell phones. Unthinkable.
We played dodge ball and sometimes the ball would really hurt.
We got cut and broke bones and broke teeth, and there were no
law suits
from these accidents. They were accidents. No one was to blame,
but us. Remember accidents? We had fights and punched each other
and got black and blue and learned to get over it.
We ate cupcakes, bread and butter, and drank sugar soda, but
we were
never overweight... we were always outside playing. We shared
one grape soda with four friends, from one bottle and no one died
from this.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X-Boxes, video games
at all,
99 channels on cable, video tape movies, surround sound, personal
cell
phones, Personal Computers, Internet chat rooms ... we had friends.
We
went outside and found them. We rode bikes or walked to a friend's
home and knocked on the door, or rung the bell or just walked
in and talked to them. Imagine such a thing. Without asking a
parent! By ourselves! Out there
in the cold cruel world! Without a guardian. How did we do it?
We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms and
although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very
many eyes, nor did the worms live inside us forever. Little League
had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't,
had to learn to deal with disappointment. Some students weren't
as smart as others so they failed a grade and were held back to
repeat the same grad e. Horrors. Tests were not adjusted for any
reason.
Our actions were our own. Consequences were expected. No one
to hide behind. The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke
a law was
unheard of. They actually sided with the law, imagine that!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and
problem
solvers and inventors ever. The past 50 years has been an explosion
of
innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and
responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all. And you're
one of them.
Congratulations!

The most recent story regarding renewing old friendships is...
My wife, Pam, was a host parent for Jason Lane when he was playing
minor league ball in Battle Creek. Pam and I met and spent time
between Battle Creek and Sacramento. While visiting me last year,
we went to a Sacramento Rivercats game to see Jason and several
other players. When we met Jason's mom and dad (Pam Miller Lane
and Glen Lane), we were all dumbfounded that we had changed so much.
We didn't recognize each other as high school classmates. What a
small world!

15 January 2003 - Dennis Farmer
Everyone has been guilty of looking at another's age and thinking,
"Surely I cannot look that old." I'm sure you've done
the same. If so, you may enjoy this short story.
While waiting for my first appointment in the reception room of
a new dentist, I noticed his certificate, which bore his full name.
Suddenly, I remembered that a tall boy with the same name had been
in my high school class some 40 years ago. Upon seeing him, however,
I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding, gray-haired
man with the deeply lined face was too old to have been my classmate.
After he had examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended the
local high school.
"Yes," he replied.
"When did you graduate?" I asked.
He answered, "In 1965"
"Why, you were in my class!" I exclaimed.
He looked at me closely and then asked, "What did you teach?"
